Trump asked the boy, who reportedly is named Coleman, in video footage that has since gone viral.

In 2018, NORAD will also be publishing Santa's location on social media, however, an estimated 140,000 calls are still expected to be made to the hotline, with volunteers taking two-hour shifts to answer enquiries. Merry Christmas from our News4Jax family to you and yours.

NORAD is typically charged with detecting attacks against North America by aircraft, missiles or space vehicles, but on Christmas Eve, its high-tech tools of detection are repurposed to find and track Santa.

Six minutes later, Mr Trump was on the line.

Official NORAD Tracks Santa apps are also available in the Apple and Google Play stores, so parents and children can countdown the days until Santa's launch on their smartphones and tablets!

U.S. envoy to anti-IS coalition quits after 'reckless' Trump decision
Several lawmakers said they were not given any advance notice about the president's announcement involving the fight against ISIS. USA military officials are scrambling to come up with a schedule for the withdrawal of an estimated 2,000 troops.

The NORAD Tracks Santa program became a Christmas Eve tradition after a child called the forerunner to the North American Aerospace Defense Command in 1955 and asked to speak to Santa. Trump asked. When she responded, "Yes, sir", the president added, "Because at 7, that's marginal, right?" The Google doodle is designed with fruits and gifts that expect to receive on the Christmas day by Santa Claus. The president spent his Christmas Eve speaking to several kids, as did Melania, before calling it a night. Trump closed by saying, "Well, you just enjoy yourself".

"My family is in Florida, Palm Beach, and I just didn't want to go down and be there when other people are hurting", Trump said. "Have a great Christmas and I'll talk to you again, OK?"

The couple took calls from children previous year as well, and the first lady said on Twitter that the Christmas Eve calls were "becoming one of my favorite traditions!"

Last year, NORAD Tracks Santa received nearly 126,000 phone calls and 18 million website hits.

The tradition will continue this year, despite a partial government shutdown over budget spending.
