Social Media Erupts After ‘Very Small’ Instagram Test Goes Broad By Accident

A number of users reported seeing a horizontal feed that, like Instagram Stories, would require you to tap or swipe through posts.

In any case, you won't have to weather a vertical feed just yet-or at all.

To say that the reaction from affected Instagram users was one of shock and horror would be an understatement, even though the horizontal scrolling affected only the main feed. And while we're at it, let's go ahead and bring back a chronological feed. "We apologize for any confusion", a representative said.

Social media was instantly flooded with users reacting negatively to the abrupt change.

Instagram is a sacred way to pass time and share life updates for many. The update is meant to mimic how you watch Instagram Stories.

Tech reporter Taylor Lorenz called out the change on Twitter, noting that not only was it completely different, but also hard to use.

The following video shows how the tap-to-advance in the feed worked on Instagram. It appears as though the app has been changed globally, for a majority of users.

Instagram appears to have changed how users scroll through the application. and then it changed it back.

Mosseri confirmed Thursday morning that the firm is walking back the changes, though he did not weigh in on the overwhelming backlash it had received.

Adam Mosseri, who heads Instagram for Facebook, tweeted that the new design was "a test that went to a few orders of magnitude more people than intended".

'Should be fixed now. "If you're still seeing it, simply restart the app", he explained.
