Shutdown Showdown: Donald Trump 'Waiting for Democrats' at White House

Trump said he will take US-Mexico relations back to the days before NAFTA opened free trade across Canada Mexico and US

He claimed he will be "forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with".

Trump's demand for money to build the border wall and Democrats' refusal to give him what he wants has caused a partial government shutdown that is almost a week old.

Several senior Democratic congressional aides contacted Thursday evening were taken aback by the White House's contention that it put new talks on the table before the House and Senate announced plans to essentially punt any resolution to the partial shutdown into next year. It also is beginning to pinch citizens who count on certain public services.

Trump wants $5 billion in funding for a wall along the more than 2,000-mile border, which he says is now too porous to stop illegal immigration and which he says has become a magnet for criminals, drugs and even terrorists.

Pelosi did face criticism Friday for reportedly spending time at a resort in a Hawaii during the shutdown. So we fully expect that until she's elected Speaker and has locked that vote up, we don't expect to hear from the Democrats again.

Trump, meanwhile, has been hardening his rhetoric and on Saturday said that Democrats have given the Republicans none of the votes they need in the Senate to provide for border security.

"Could the White House have handled this better?"

"Trump has been holding work meetings since Congress went into recess, including one with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on how to fund the administration's border security plan", the report said. She said Democrats "will govern responsibly in stark contrast to this chaotic White House".

In a burst of early morning tweets, the president said the alternative to funding his controversial wall project would be total separation from Mexico, including making U.S. vehicle companies pull out their factories based on the other side of the frontier.

AS THE MCG pitch begun to deteriorate, not even India wanted to be caught in a situation where they had to bat last. Bumrah's third five-wicket haul in nine Tests, but the first time he has taken a six-for in global cricket.

"Any deaths of children or others at the Border are strictly the fault of the Democrats and their pathetic immigration policies that allow people to make the long trek thinking they can enter our country illegally", Trump wrote on Twitter.

"Huh?!" replied one senior Democratic aide in an email a few minutes after the call with the White House official.

Trump also said the US would cut off all aid to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador for "taking advantage of (the) USA for years!"

He has also repeatedly threatened to cut off USA aid to countries he deems insufficient partners in combating illegal immigration, but has thus far failed to follow through with those threats.

About 90 minutes later, Trump made clear he already is viewing the shutdown and border wall fight in terms of how it might help him during his re-election campaign.

And it is Congress, not the president, which appropriates aid money.

"We are always seeking a good relationship with the United States".

Trump said he would then take US-Mexican relations back to the days before the NAFTA agreement opened free trade across Canada, Mexico and the United States.
