Putin Tells Trump in New Year's Letter He's Open to Meeting

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said in a radio program aired Sunday he hopes to have a "specific discussion" with Russian President Vladimir Putin on a peace treaty between the two countries when the leaders meet next month. Vladimir Putin responded with announcement that Moscow would be developing new missiles.His recent statement however may pave the way for more stable US-Russia relations.

The events are believed to be carefully stage-managed to appeal to the president's huge number of supporters in Russian Federation.

The US President pinned the cancellation on Russia's refusal to release Ukrainian Navy ships and sailors seized during a maritime confrontation between the two countries on November 25.

Also on Monday, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev exchanged New Year greetings.

Russian Federation denies that the missile violates the INF Treaty and accuses the United States of inventing a false pretext to exit the treaty in order to develop new missiles.
