Missing 13-year-old girl found alive in Wisconsin

County Wis. Sheriff's Department shows Jayme Closs who was discovered missing Oct. 15 2018 after her parents were found fatally shot at their home in Barron Wis. The Barron County Sheriff'

Authorities in Wisconsin say 13-year-old Jayme Closs, seen here in an undated photo, has been found alive.

It said she was located in the town of Gordon, near Lake Superior and northeast of Minneapolis.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said during a news conference Friday that Jayme was taken against her will. He said a search warrant is now being served on the Gordon home and authorities are also investigating several cars that belong to Patterson, who he said has "zero" criminal history.

She said she did not know where she was or anything about Gordon, and Peter Kasinkas said she was quiet and her emotions were "pretty flat". He also said it didn't appear that there was any social media connection between the kidnapper and Jayme Closs, and authorities are still investigating how he became aware of her. She was not being interviewed by law enforcement, the sheriff said.

A woman said she was walking her dog along a rural road when a disheveled teenage girl called out to her for help, quickly grabbed her and told her she was lost. The decorations spelled out her name in big, glittery letters, and they included green bulbs and ribbons.

Kasinskas tells NBC's "Today Show" that Jayme talked about being locked up or hidden when the person had to leave, but that the girl didn't detail how she got away. "She just yelled. 'Please help me I don't know where I am".

"It's incredible of the will of that 13-year-old girl to survive and escape", Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said.

Smart says "whatever other details may surface, the most important will still remain that she is alive".

The two went elsewhere in the neighbourhood, to the home of Peter and Kristin Kasinskas.

Months later, Jayme reappeared in the sparsely-populated town of Gordon, about 70 miles (113km) north of her hometown.

"I think we recognized Jayme immediately". "My jaw just went to the floor".

When the police arrived only four minutes later, they found the front door kicked in and Denise, 46, and her husband James, 56, shot dead.

Jayme's grandfather, Robert Naiberg, told the AP that he had been praying for months for the call he received about his granddaughter being found alive.

After Jayce vanished, detectives pursued thousands of tips, watched dozens of surveillance videos and conducted numerous searches. An initial ground search yielded no clues, but a second search by more than 2,000 people turned up several items of interest to investigators, the AP reports.

Jayme's aunt, Sue Allard, told WCCO of a rollercoaster day Thursday - the family earlier in the day had heard rumors, which authorities knocked down, that the teen might have been found in a different part of the state. She refused offers of food and drink from the couple, but took a blanket.

Closs was taken to a hospital where she was treated and held overnight for observation.

Jayme told the couple she didn't know where she was or anything about Gordon, a town of about 644 people in a heavily forested region where logging in the top industry. From what she told them, they believed she was there for most of her disappearance.

"You just have to get up every day and keep that hope alive and stick together as a family and pray that everything is going to work out", said Tom Allard, a family member.

Elizabeth Smart says it is a "miracle" that a 13-year-old Wisconsin girl missing for almost three months has been found safe.

"I thought, 'Good for her she escaped, ' " he said.
