USA 'probes Huawei for trade secret theft'

The newspaper said the DoJ was looking into allegations of theft of trade secrets from Huawei's USA business partners, including a T-Mobile robotic device used to test smartphones.

"But you have to treat well the companies and countries so that they are willing to invest in the US and the government will be able to collect enough tax", says Huawei's reclusive founder Ren Zhengfei in a rate interview.

Sen.r Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) to impose a ban on selling United States technology to Chinese companies in violation of sanctions laws and export control. At issue was a robotics technology that T-Mobile used to test for quality control issues in smartphones.

Prohibiting any executive agency official from modifying any penalty imposed on Chinese telecommunications companies, their agents, or affiliates until the President certifies that the company has not violated USA laws for one year and is cooperating fully with U.S. investigations.

Why is China's biggest technology company being targeted?

Huawei contended in a filing that, despite admitted wrongdoing on the part of employees, the actions did not constitute trade theft because the technology, a robotic device dubbed "tappy", was no secret.

In its 2014 suit, T-Mobile alleged a Huawei engineer slipped one of the robots fingertips into his laptop bag during the visit and left with it. Huawei declined to comment.

Donald Trump overtakes Clinton for longest government shutdown
A later tweet said damage from "Drugs, Crime and so much that is bad" were worse for the USA than the government shutdown . But the measures are unlikely to be approved by the Senate, which is controlled by Mr Trump's Republicans.

Meanwhile, American lawmakers and national security experts are concerned about ties between the companies and the Chinese government.

Both have also been accused of failing to respect USA sanctions on Iran.

The U.S report warned that China could use network equipment for cyber-espionage, which in part prompted calls similar to those made this week from the provincial NDP: To have SaskTel release details of its Huawei contracts and investigate "potential problems the relationship could cause".

"This is Congress asserting, as we did back in July 2018, that we need to put these Chinese telecoms companies that are acting effectively as arms of the Chinese Communist Party, out of business", said one senior congressional official. The two companies were specifically mentioned because they were anxious that Huawei and ZTE's network switches were used to monitor the United States.

China is being accused of upping the ante in an ongoing dispute with Canada after a high-ranking Huawei executive was arrested in Vancouver last month, where she faces extradition to the United States.

However, Huawei noted that "Huawei and T-Mobile settled their disputes in 2017 following a U.S. jury verdict finding neither damage, unjust enrichment nor willful and malicious conduct by Huawei in T-Mobile's trade secret claim".
