Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition celebrates 60+ years of going off-road

2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition

The foglights and the side mirrors likewise feature dark chrome bits.

Highlighting the Land Cruiser's renown for blending luxury with capability, the Heritage Edition is exclusively outfitted with black leather-trimmed upholstery.

Toyota took out a row to maximize space, so it loses the eight-passenger capacity of a regular Land Cruiser.

"As the vehicle that's played a part in the lives of so many rural Australians for 60 years, creating a bespoke Land Cruiser to support them made flawless sense", said Toyota Australia chief marketing officer Wayne Gabriel when launching the prize at the Tamworth Country Music Festival this week. It's the little things that make it a special-edition SUV as there are no major changes to the Land Cruiser's beloved and tried-and-true formula. The vehicle will have a black-accented grille and bronze 18-inch forged aluminum wheels. For the 2020 model year there will be 1,200 Heritage Editions available, with units going on in late summer of 2019.

It's been 60 years since the Land Cruiser was first introduced to the USA, so to mark the occasion Toyota is producing a limited run Heritage Edition that gains vintage details and a plusher interior. It will also be offered in two exterior colors only - Midnight Black Metallic or Blizzard Pearl. It will also come with all-weather floor mats and cargo liner. Its sole available powertrain is a brawny yet refined 381-horsepower 5.7-liter DOHC V8 engine, which produces 401 lb. -ft. of torque.

Standard equipment includes Downhill Assist Control, Hill Start Assist, CRAWL Control (for low-speed off-road driving in extreme conditions) and Off-Road Turn Assist. The Heritage Edition does delete the center cool box, however, again for more storage. Toyota is keeping standard technology features inside, such as the stereo system and touchscreen display. But what we're most excited about is the heritage badging that has been applied, evoking memories of Toyota 4x4s of yore.
