Washington Wizards' $235 million injury nightmare, John Wall

John Wall Could Miss The Entire Next NBA Season After Rupturing His Achilles

Washington Wizards guard John Wall looks on from the bench prior to the game against the Indiana Pacers at Capital One Arena. The injury will bar Wall from any basketball-related activity for at least 12 months. He suffered the rupture after slipping and falling in his home.

Another operation to fix the tendon will be performed by physician Robert Anderson in Green Bay, Wisconsin, at a date to be determined.

Wall underwent an initial surgery upon the tendon last month aimed at preventing a tear and was to miss six to eight months as a result after being ruled out for the season December 29. The five-time All-Star was wearing a boot on his left foot and using a scooter to get around.

The new injury was discovered when Wizards director of medical services and orthopedist Dr. Wiemi Douoguih went in to do a routine procedure to clean out the infection.

According to multiple reports, Wall underwent surgery for a ruptured achilles and won't be back until sometime late next year at the earliest. However, those talks apparently dissipated quickly, especially in the case of John Wall whose contract isn't the most franchise-friendly with this season marking the first of his $170 max extension.

The Wizards have remained optimistic this season about potentially making the playoffs but without Wall in the lineup, that possibility is looking grimmer.

The Wizards are now 22-31, 3.0 games back from the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Wall was limited to 41 games last season, mostly because of surgery on his left knee.

Wall averaged 20.7 points, 8.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 32 games this season.
