It’s Happening: Elizabeth Warren Is Officially Running for President

Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., formally announced her candidacy for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination on Saturday, saying she wants to fight for "an America that works for everyone".

The progressive darling, smarting from a week of hard questions and another apology for calling her race "American Indian", will speak on the steps of Everett Mills, the site of the 1912 Bread and Roses Strike, in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

"We are here to say enough is enough", said Warren in her remarks.

Warren was the first high-profile Democrat to signal interest in running for the White House, forming an exploratory committee on New Year's Eve.

The senator accused rich people of waging class warfare against the working class for years, and vowed to fight back.

I think Warren would make a great president - she is a real fighter for the working people of our nation.

She added: "This is the fight of our lives, the fight to build an America where dreams are possible, an America that works for everyone". After first winning election to the U.S. senate in 2012, Warren became one of the body's most outspoken critics of outlaw financial practices and white-collar impunity. An attempt by Warren to put the episode behind her by releasing a DNA test indicating a sliver of Native ancestry backfired after drawing criticism from Native American advocacy groups.

House Launches New Investigation Into Trump, Russia
But Schiff said Wednesday morning that the interview had been postponed to February 28 "in the interests of the investigation". Cohen is still expected to appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee for a closed-door interview next Wednesday.

The Massachusetts Democrat, a leader of the party's progressive wing, made her announcement on Saturday from an historic site in Lawrence, northwest of Boston, that launched the USA organised labour movement.

The Democrats are in the beginning stages of selecting a contender to take on Donald Trump, who launched his 2020 campaign shortly after his inauguration. According to multiple sources familiar with the plans, Kennedy will discuss why he believes Warren's record on economic issues should set her apart from the rest of the ballooning 2020 presidential field. Bernie Sanders in 2016; Hillary Clinton, then a NY senator, in 2008; and then-Massachusetts Sen.

To give Warren the authority to redesign financial rules and regulations would seem the ideal way to begin to shrink the obscene and unsafe inequality between the very wealthy and the nation's working and middle classes. "Separating a momma from a baby does not make this country safer", Warren said in an interview with CNN last summer, a message she has returned to during her time on the campaign trail.

Trump and conservatives have long called Warren "Pocahontas" for her Native American ancestry claims.

Warren has been a frontrunner among democrats in the presidential running for months now.

But even as Warren sharpens her policy positions and political message, the specter of additional, previously undisclosed examples of Warren labeling herself Native American on professional forms looms in the background. "I want to know what people are going to do to fix the issues that matters that we face".

Ms Warren intends to spend Sunday in Iowa, where the lead-off caucuses will be the first test of candidates' viability.
