Trump says March 1 deadline for China trade talks not 'magical' date

The recommendation from the National Cyber Security Centre is said to have come after a review of "5G" mobile technology and the potential risks it poses.

A major United Kingdom security body has suggested any potential risk posed by Huawei's 5G infrastructure would be manageable, according to the Financial Times yesterday.

Growing U.S. pressure on allies to shun Huawei Technologies Ltd., China's first global tech brand, increasingly threatens its access to global markets for next-generation telecoms technology.

USA government agencies are officially banned from using Huawei and ZTE equipment via an executive order passed in August 2018, and several other countries, including Australia and New Zealand, followed suit. The Trump administration has issued multiple concerns over the Chinese giant, and possible surveillance being carried out on behalf of its home government - allegations Huawei continues to deny.

What are the security concerns over Huawei?

Wark pointed to Huawei's history of fostering technological innovation in Canada and supplying quality gear to major telecommunications providers as reasons to assess the security risks on rational, technical grounds.

Solskjaer on Alexis Sanchez: Ole issues worrying statement on Chilean forward
Sanchez earned a reprieve at half-time when Jesse Lingard was forced off in added time at the end of the first half. But in terms of morale, we were at the top.

Alex Younger, head of MI6, the United Kingdom secret intelligence service, also indicated that Britain would not ban Huawei. Last month Meng, who is the daughter of the Huawei founder, was charged with wire fraud that violated USA sanctions on Iran.

Hannigan argued that British security officials had never found evidence of Huawei involvement in Chinese state-sponsored cyberespionage, and that political fashion or trade wars should not eclipse rational assessment of risk.

"China has not and will not require companies or individuals to collect or provide foreign countries' information for the Chinese government by installing backdoors or other actions that violate local laws", said Geng.

Tension and speculation concerning Ottawa's coming decision on 5G have been heightened by the December arrest of Huawei's chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, in Vancouver following a request from US authorities and the subsequent detention of two Canadians by China on security grounds.

Britain's National Cyber Security Centre admitted last summer that it had concerns about the engineering and security of Huawei's networks.
