Should Justin Trudeau resign after the SNC-Lavalin scandal?

"I completely disagree with the former attorney general's characterization of events", Trudeau said in Montreal, shortly after Wilson-Raybould concluded four hours of explosive testimony before the House of Commons justice committee.

The broader picture painted by Wilson-Raybould is one of repeated interventions from senior staff and figures in Trudeau's government on the SNC file between September and January, when she was shuffled out of the justice portfolio. She remains a Liberal MP in the Vancouver-Granville riding. "They denied this to be the case", she testified, adding later that she left because she no longer had the confidence to sit around the cabinet table.

In a meeting that day with Ms. Wilson-Raybould, Mr. Trudeau and Clerk of the Privy Council Michael Wernick apparently would not take "no" for an answer.

The scandal has rocked the Canadian political scene and has led to calls from Conservative opposition lead Andrew Scheer for the prime minister to

In none-Wilson-Raybould news...

Over almost four hours of explosive testimony Wednesday, Wilson-Raybould told the House of Commons justice committee there were 10 meetings and 10 phone calls involving 11 people between September and December 2018, all aimed at getting her to "politically interfere in the exercise of prosecutorial discretion in my role as the attorney general of Canada".

The SNC Lavalin case is haunting the ruling Liberal party and the government.

After that, she says, he quickly backtracked, saying that he simply wanted to "find a solution".

In all, Wilson-Raybould said pressure was exerted on her or her staff by 11 people through approximately 10 phone calls, 10 meetings and numerous emails and text messages.

Calling on Royal Canadian Mounted Police to immediately launch an investigation into the claims against members of the Trudeau administration if it has not done so already, Scheer said he believes that Trudeau has "lost the moral authority to govern" in the wake of the allegations leveled against his government.

Kvitova to Face Bencic in Dubai Final
Kvitova's serve improved in the second set, though, and the Czech player also broke Bencic three times to level the match. Speaking of her Swiss compatriot, Bencic said: "I'm trying to be as calm as him (Federer)".

Meanwhile, frustrations in Canada's Western provinces have only intensified since the demise of the Energy East pipeline, which TransCanada chose to abandon after Mr. Trudeau imposed an upstream carbon-emissions test on the project.

Trudeau says he's surprised and disappointed that Wilson-Raybould has quit, and that if she felt undue pressure in her role as attorney general, she had a duty to report it to him.

Gerald Butts, Trudeau's closet adviser, resigned last week but denied that he or anyone else pressured Wilson-Raybould. Ms. Roussel did not provide any reasons for her decision, other than to say she considered it "inappropriate" to defer prosecution.

When asked about this Thursday, Trudeau deflected by saying, again, that "had [former treasury board president] Scott Brison not stepped down, Jody Wilson-Raybould would still be minister of justice and attorney general of Canada". She has repeatedly said she will run again in the federal election as a Liberal party candidate, a move experts view as hard given her public spat with the prime minister.

One top official said there was no talk for now of a leadership challenge.

MPs leave town at the end of this week for a two-week break in their constituencies and Angus argued that it "falls upon parliament to address this... to be seized of this matter, particularly since we will be going back to our constituencies for two weeks, we have to reassure them that the rule of law in Canada will not be monkey-wrenched for partisan purposes".

I listened carefully to the testimony of the former Attorney General, and like Canadians, I was sickened and appalled by her story of inappropriate, and frankly illegal pressure brought to bear on her by the highest officials of Justin Trudeau's government.

"This is unprecedented testimony that bolsters our arguments and our calls for a public inquiry", Jagmeet Singh told reporters.

Asked if Wilson-Raybould could remain in the Liberal caucus and be allowed to run as a Liberal in the election, Trudeau said he hasn't had time to review her entire testimony and will do that before making any final decision.
