Trump 'clearly obstructed USA justice', claims judiciary head

A USA congressional panel says it has served document requests on 81 government agencies, entities and individuals as part of an investigation into alleged obstruction of justice and other abuses by President Donald Trump and others.

Couple the muddled special counsel regulations with DoJ guidance suggesting that indictment of a sitting president would be unconstitutional, and we get the flawless storm: a president above the law by virtue of "rules" laid down by people within the president's own chain of command-i.e., DoJ lawyers.

President Donald Trump contended Monday he intends to cooperate - to some extent, at least - with House Democrats' demand for information. He said it was too soon to consider whether impeachment should be pursued, however. The timing decision is still up in the air, as is an overarching communications plan - selling impeachment to the American public, or more specifically those Americans who don't already support impeachment.whatever the stated rationale, impeachment is on.

Indeed, President Trump's former personal lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen's public testimony last week in front of the House Oversight and Reform Committee reinforced the importance of the special counsel's investigation into Russia's influence in the 2016 campaign.

Large-scale investigations led by the FBI, Congress, and special counsel Robert Mueller haven't yielded any evidence of wrongdoing by Trump.

The committee is requesting a cache of documents from the White House, including those related to the firing of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, the termination of former FBI Director James Comey and any discussions about the removal of special counsel Robert Mueller, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and former Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Trump suggested on Monday that he will cooperate with the investigation.

Congressional panel launches sweeping probe into Trump
Regarding the Mueller probe, ABC Newschief anchor George Stephanopoulos asked Nadler, "Do you think the president obstructed justice? ".

The House Judiciary Committee sent letters to 81 people and entities linked to Trump, demanding documents within two weeks about a lengthy list of events involving the country's 45th president.

The investigation appears to be focused on Trump's business dealings, possible collusion with Russian Federation, and obstruction of justice allegations. Both spent more than a year in Trump's inner circle and have featured prominently in books and other published accounts of conditions in the Trump White House. "All of a sudden they are trying to take you out with bullshit", he said.

"All the people on the list have given information already", Nadler said, either to Special Counsel Robert Mueller for his probe of alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election or to federal prosecutors for the Southern District of NY in their corruption probe.

The committee is also asking the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Justice Department and others for documents related to possible pardons for Trump's former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, former national security adviser Michael Flynn and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort. She said White House counsel's office will review it and respond at an appropriate time. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., and Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who lead committees probing Trump.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy accused House Democrats of prejudging Mr Trump based purely on partisan politics.

'But it's never going to be over, ' Cobb told ABC News in a podcast.

According to Nadler, document requests have been issued to the Justice Department, the president's son, Donald Trump Jr., and Trump Organization Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg, as well as former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and former White House Counsel Don McGahn.
