Will Smith's skin is too light for this biopic — Twitter critics

Will Smith Serena Williams get roles in ‘King Richard

"King Richard" focuses on Williams overcoming the many challenges he faced in helping his daughters to rise above the violence in their hometown of Compton, California, to become top players in tennis, one of the most lily-white and historically racist sports in the world.

Will Smith may be heading to the big screen as a giant blue genie in Disney's "Aladdin" soon enough but the Fresh Prince is also now attached to play the Father of Tennis greats, Serena and Venus Williams in "King Richard".

Richard Williams did not have any background in tennis at the time.

The A-list actor was cast to play the character of Richard - who trained his daughters from an early age in cracked and weedy courts in Compton, strategically developed a professional 78-page plan for their careers.

Venus has seven Grand Slam singles titles, with both Serena and Venus also racking up 14 Grand Slam doubles titles. Her older sister Venus triumphed at Wimbledon in 2000 - the first of five wins there. The film is being produced by Tim White and Trevor Write via their Star Thrower Entertainment banner as well as Smith himself will produce it through his Overbrook Entertainment banner.

The report follows news that Smith has pulled out of the sequel of DC gang flick Suicide Squad, which is set to hit cinemas in 2021.

Smith was called the "Most powerful actor in Hollywood in April 2007" by Newsweek and was nominated for five Golden Globe Awards and two Academy Awards, and has won four Grammy Awards. He also stars in sci-fi thriller Gemini Man, with Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Clive Owen, in theaters October 4 and is now filming the highly-anticipated Bad Boys III with Martin Lawrence.
