ESPN Social reacts to LeBron passing Michael Jordan

The Lakers will be cutting back on the time Le Bron James spends on the court the rest of the season

The Lakers' struggles have left some fans to ironically chant the name of the franchise legend, who is above James as a player in the eyes of some LA supporters.

James, who finished with 31 points in the Lakers' 115-99 loss to the Denver Nuggets, came into the night 12 behind Jordan's career total of 32,292 points.

After the game, LeBron spoke to the media about his achievement and how he idolised Michael Jordan whilst growing up. Since the injury, the Lakers have posted a record of 10-21. "For a kid from Akron, Ohio, that needed inspiration and needed some type of positive influence, MJ was that guy for me. I watched him from afar, wanted to be like MJ", James said.

I remember being so angry, but nine years removed now, I think I was mostly just sad.

"Hopefully I can inspire the next kid like myself". "He was like lightning in a bottle for me".

He is averaging 27.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game this season.

The next target for James would be retired Lakers star guard Kobe Bryant, who is third on the National Basketball Association career list with 33,643 points. James is now fourth on the list of points leaders, behind only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone and Kobe Bryant.

James tied Jordan when he drained a 19-foot jumper midway through the second quarter.

"That would take a lot of convincing from Luke [Walton] on up", James told ESPN, referring to the Lakers coach as well as, most likely, everyone from general manager Rob Pelinka, to president Magic Johnson, to governor Jeanie Buss. At his current rate it will take James around 224 games to match him, so three more seasons of dominance could do the job.
