Woods pulls out of Bay Hill with neck strain

Tiger Woods of the United States reacts on the 15th green during the final round of World Golf Championships Mexico Championship at Club de Golf Chapultepec

Tiger Woods has withdrawn from this week's Arnold Palmer Invitational after suffering a neck strain.

Woods last month finished tied for 10th at his previous tournament, the WGC-Mexico Championship.

Woods said he has been dealing with the strain for a few weeks.

"I couldn?t play at 100 percent today, so I just wanted to see if I could get out here and my back may have loosened up".

Last year, Woods tied for fifth at the Arnold Palmer event, a tournament he has won eight times at the Bay Hill Club.

He continued in a follow-up tweet: "I'd like to send my regrets to the Palmer family and the Orlando fans".

Other big names in the field this week include the return the Justin Rose, and other recent Arnold Palmer Invitational champions such as Jason Day and Marc Leishman.

How simple act of kindness led to $1.2 billion lotto win
There was a 180 day limit on claiming the prize, so the victor was still well within the time limit when they came forward. Others speculated that the winning ticket had been purchased by an office pool and was now the subject of litigation.

This year, Woods has recorded finishes of 20th, 15th and 10th in his three tournament appearances, and is now fifth favourite for next month's Masters.

The World No.11 was playing his first round at Bay Hill with Rickie Fowler and Iain Poulter, but lasted just six holes before withdrawing with a back injury.

Injuries are once again catching up to Tiger Woods.

Day said he still aims to recover in time for next week's Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. Instead of rest, and in a somewhat surprising decision, Woods travelled directly to Mexico to play in the WGC Mexico Championship.

The American's last win was in 2013 when he shot 13-under 275 for a two-stroke victory.

The PGA Tour's Rookie of the Year honour has been renamed after the late Arnold Palmer, one of golf's greatest players whose enormous popularity drew a legion of fans to the game.
