ISIS bride Shamima Begum's baby has reportedly died

Shamima Begum is stateless and her baby died last week

Syrian Democratic Forces have denied reports that the baby son of Islamic State (IS) bride Shamima Begum has died.

The Begum family's lawyer, Tasnime Akunjee, said he had received confirmation that the child, who was only a few weeks old, had died and that Begum's relatives were devastated upon hearing the news. "These matters should be investigated", the 60-year-old said, urging the United Kingdom to allow his daughter to return and face the British legal system.

Begum was 15 when she and two friends left London to marry IS fighters in Syria in 2015, at a time when the group's online recruitment program lured many impressionable young people to its self-proclaimed caliphate.

If the reports are confirmed, then it would mean that Miss Begum has lost all three of her children that she has given birth to since arriving in Syria in 2015.

Their lawyer Aamar Anwar told the Sunday Mirror: "If it was your daughter would you not want her back?"

As her child was born before she was deprived of United Kingdom citizenship, the baby would still be considered British.

Mr Akunjee announced earlier on in the month that Miss Begum had relocated from Al-Hol to another area near the border with Iraq after getting death threats from other Daesh brides in the camp for showing her face on camera and speaking to the global media.

Begum, whose two older children had also previously died, was stripped of her British citizenship last month on security grounds after she was discovered in a detention camp in Syria.

She has given a number of interviews to British media, saying she wanted to return to Britain.

Begum and her newborn son, thought to be called Jarrah, had been living at a refugee camp in Syria.

He said that the family had wanted to establish communications with Begum to find out what happened to her baby, adding: "This innocent baby was let down".

She recently resurfaced in a refugee camp, and gave birth last month.

He added: "I have nothing but sympathy for the children that have been dragged into this".

They say the teenager should face justice if she is found to have broken the law by travelling to Syria.

She sparked a huge debate in the United Kingdom over whether she should be allowed back.
