Britain removes citizenship from two more IS brides: report READ MORE

Shamima Begum was stripped of her British citizenship after fleeing the UK to join the Islamic State terror group in Syria aged 15

The development comes after the newborn baby of another IS bride Shamima Begum's died of pneumonia on Thursday at a Syrian refugee camp.

Two Pakistani-origin sisters from London are believed to be the latest set of mothers to lose their British citizenship for marrying into the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group in Syria.

Before she gave birth, Begum told British newspaper The Times that she wanted to come home to have her child since she already had two children who died in infancy from malnutrition and illness.

A British government spokesman said: "The death of any child is tragic and deeply distressing for the family".

While Home Secretary Javid confirmed Begum's son was a British citizen, he said it would be "incredibly difficult" to facilitate the return of a child from Syria.

Mr Hunt said journalists were less likely to be targeted than British officials.

Javid's decision to strip the teenager of her British citizenship triggered a ferocious debate over whether she should be allowed to return and raised questions about the legality of his decision.

There were initially conflicting reports about the baby's well-being, with Mustafa Bali, the spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces, saying on Twitter that reports of the baby's death were fake.

She later said she regretted talking to the media and was moved to another location in Syria after she and her child received threats in the refugee camp.

Dal Babu, a former Metropolitan Police chief superintendent and friend of Begum's family, told BBC Newsnight on Friday: "We've failed, as a country, to safeguard the child".

Kirsty McNeill, a director at Save the Children UK, urged Britain to "take responsibility for their citizens" in Syria.

Stripping citizenship is only legal if the individual has a second one, and it was thought she may have a claim in Bangladesh because of her family background, but Bangladeshi officials denied this.

"It's impossible to muster sympathy for her", author and academic Idrees Ahmad wrote in reference to Begum, according to the Post.

Two senior members of the government said on Saturday that the death was a tragedy but that the home secretary took the decision on grounds of national security. The foreign secretary has said it was too unsafe to send British officials to rescue Shamima Begum's baby son from Syria, and said the lack of access to medical facilities was a result of Begum leaving British soil to go and live under the ISIS. "This is callous and inhumane".

Shamima Begum's new born son has died in a displaced people's camp in northern Syria. "Sadly in this case, as we know, it wasn't possible", he added.

The British interior ministry said it does not comment on individual cases. "This is a reminder of why it is so, so risky for anyone to be in this war zone".

"My number one job is to do whatever I can to keep this country safe", Javid had said last month while announcing the revocation of citizenship.
