Second Brexit meaningful vote: What happens in Parliament next week?

Less than three weeks before Britain is due to leave the European Union on March 29, Prime Minister Theresa May has failed to secure the changes to the divorce agreement she needs to gain the support of lawmakers who rejected it in a record rebellion in January.

In the absence of visible progress, she has sought to remind MPs of the stakes involved in rejecting her divorce agreement.

Their intervention comes as MPs prepare to vote on May's deal on Tuesday, two months after her deal was roundly rejected by 230 votes in January. We may not leave without the protections the deal provides. "We may never leave at all".

In the letter, they said Northern Ireland's business community is deeply concerned that firms are hugely exposed to the economic fallout from leaving the European Union with without a deal and were already hurting from a lack of investment ahead of Brexit.

"There is a risk and possibility that we end up losing Brexit if we get the votes wrong in the next couple of weeks", he told the BBC.

An RAF plane is reported to be on standby to fly her to Brussels to clinch a deal if an agreement is in sight.

This how those crucial few days should play out.

However, Northern Ireland would have to remain in the EU's trade orbit to prevent the need for any customs checks on the border with EU-member Ireland.

The DUP, which props up the Government at Westminster, said Northern Ireland would still be in the backstop, effectively drawing a "border in the Irish Sea" with the rest of the United Kingdom, something Mrs May has repeatedly ruled out.

But this is unlikely to be enough to convince May's critics in the Commons, which rejected the deal by 432 votes to 202 in January.

It's not clear what happens if they vote against a no-deal Brexit but also oppose the idea of delaying Brexit.

"He has put forward constructive additions, now we wait for a credible response from the United Kingdom to ensure an orderly Brexit", he said on Saturday.

Nigel Dodds, the deputy leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) which props up May's minority government, and Steve Baker, a leading figure in the large eurosceptic faction of her Conservative party, warned "the political situation is grim".

May has been wooing opposition Labour MPs with promises of protection for workers' rights and new funds for poor towns, but the Labour party leadership remains against her deal.

Ahead of a vote on Tuesday on the divorce agreement struck with the bloc past year, more than 50 businesses warned members of parliament in an open letter of the dangers of failing to unite behind a way forward that avoids a hard border and protects peace and economic progress in Northern Ireland.
