Real Madrid re-hires Zinedine Zidane as manager amid tumultuous season

Zinedine Zidane is back at Real Madrid

"The president of Real Madrid will appear today with Zinedine Zidane before the media at 8:00 pm in the press room of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium".

"The Real Madrid board of directors, which met today, Monday 11 March 2019, has made a decision to terminate Santiago Solari's contract as first-team coach, whilst Real Madrid have offered him the opportunity to remain at the club", a statement on the Real Madrid website reads.

Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos has launched a passionate defence of the club amid mounting speculation over the future of coach Santiago Solari.

"The Board of Directors has named Zinedine Zidane as the new trainer of Real Madrid effective immediately for the rest of the season and until June 30th 2022".

Zidane, speaking after Pérez said, "I'm very happy to be here..."

The Welsh worldwide might have left last summer had Zidane stayed but instead it was Cristiano Ronaldo that departed and the Frenchman now takes over a team missing the Portugese's goals and in urgent need of reform.

In less than a week, Madrid twice lost to Barcelona and once to Ajax, being eliminated from the Champions League and the Copa del Rey, and seeing their Spanish league title chances all but end.

Real Madrid's solution to the current crisis is the man whose departure led to it.

Real crashed out of the Champions League in the last 16 with a 4-1 loss to Ajax last week, their fourth straight home defeat.

Zidane has a long history with the club, even before managing the giants. Manolo Díaz was handed the Castilla coaching post when Solari replaced Lopetegui with the first team in November.

It is believed that they have overpowered president Florentino Perez's desire to re-appoint Jose Mourinho.

During his first spell with the club, over the course of less than three seasons, he managed to win nine trophies. I didn't go too far, as I live here, but I am happy to work with this great club and this squad above all.
