Facebook into second day of global outage

Social media giants, Facebook and Instagram, are experiencing issues, which means an outage.

Facebook continues to work on the issue affecting its family of apps.

Its Facebook outage map showed hotspots in the heavily populated areas of the United States, in northern Europe including the UK, and also instances in the UAE.

While there has been speculation that the site may have been targeted by a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, the firm said this is not the case.

Additionally, The Verge reports that some users are experiencing similar problems with Mark Zuckerberg's original social network.

KNOE has not been able to post on Facebook since just after 11 a.m. Messaging services are also being affected. Some users saw a message, saying Facebook was down for "required maintenance".

'Pages won't load. I'm sure they're busy loading new algorithms to sell your data & spy on you better and more efficiently, ' one users tweeted. As of 6 p.m. EST, she says, the ad platform had been down about five hours, and this appears related to the issues with the rest of the apps and sites. Many report being unable to post, share, or like.

Users are reporting that they are having trouble posting to the sites, while others are receiving an error code or can't log in at all.

Meanwhile, per uje, Twitter is abuzz with reaction GIFs and memes.

Don't worry, there's still SnapChat - so you can post selfies of yourself with weird filters; TikTok so you can pretend you're on MTV in the late '80s; oh, let's not forget YouTube where most children watch TV these days.

It is still unclear when two of the biggest social media networks will be back up and running.
