Dolphins trade quarterback Ryan Tannehill to Tennessee

Ryan Tannehill

The Miami Dolphins have traded quarterback Ryan Tannehill to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a 2020 4th round pick and a swap of 6th and 7th round picks in this year's draft.

Along with Tannehill, the Dolphins will send Tennessee a sixth-round pick in the 2019 draft.

In his last National Football League season, Kaepernick threw for 2,241 yards and 16 touchdowns.

What will the Dolphins do at quarterback?

Tannehill had 16 300-yard passing games for the Dolphins, topped by his 431-yard performance in a 24-21 overtime loss against Arizona during his rookie season.

Over so many failed expectations, the Miami Dolphins have finally moved on from QB Ryan Tannehill. The Dolphins haven't really been linked to many quarterbacks in the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft, but that's largely a result of where they're picking.

His contract was to balloon to $18.7 million in base salary this year, and he would have counted $26.6 million against the salary cap.

He's 42-46 as a starter with a 62.8-percent completion rate, 20,434 passing yards, 123 touchdowns and 75 interceptions. He did not play in 2017 due to injury. Tannehill earned a flawless 158.3 passer rating and was rewarded by being named AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

The Dolphins spent seven years trying to get a full evaluation of Tannehill, and ultimately they decided it would be a counterproductive same-old Dolphins' way of thinking to let him get another shot under a new staff. Brian Flores was hired to replace Adam Gase as head coach after the season ended.

He was the first quarterback taken in the top round since Dan Marino.
