SC revokes life ban on Sreesanth, asks BCCI to reconsider punishment

In a huge relief for the former India cricketer and Bigg Boss contestant S Sreesanth, the Supreme Court on Friday set aside the life ban imposed on him for being involved in spot fixing during 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League.

The bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan set aside the life ban on Sreesanth and asked the board to reconsider the quantum of punishment within three months.

The criminal proceedings pending against the former cricketer in the Delhi High Court should not be affected by this verdict, where the Delhi Police has challenged a trial court's order discharging all accused, including Sreesanth, in the IPL spot-fixing case, the court added.

The apex court a year ago asked the Delhi High Court to decide expeditiously the appeal filed by the Delhi Police challenging a trial court order discharging several accused, including Sreesanth. It's six years and I haven't played cricket, which was my life.I hope that the BCCI respects the verdict of the country's highest court and allows me to at least get back to the cricket field. I am very happy with the Supreme Court decision. I have been keeping myself fit and practising regularly.

Nigeria halts search a day after school collapses killing 8
The dilapidated building in the densely-populated Lagos Island area suddenly collapsed on Wednesday morning. An inquiry found the building had been built illegally and had structural flaws.

Based on Sawani's findings, the BCCI disciplinary panel, comprising then president N Srinivasan along with the two vice-presidents, Arun Jaitley and Niranjan Shah, held Sreesanth guilty of "match-fixing and non-reporting of offences" under the BCCI' anti-corruption code.

The top court, according to Livelaw website, directed the disciplinary committee of the BCCI to take a decision on the quantum of punishment within three months from today. However, the court rejected Sreesanth's plea that he should not be punished at all because he was acquitted in the spot-fixing case. I now really hope that BCCI too will do justice to him. The two-judge division bench had ruled that the BCCI ban could not be overturned or reduced.

February 5, 2018: The Supreme Court issues notice to the BCCI to respond within four weeks to the petition filed by Sreesanth.
