Arsenal vs. Stade Rennes - Football Match Report

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice as Arsenal beat Rennes 3-0 to reach the Europa League quarter-finals

Aubameyang hit Arsenal's opener on five minutes with Ainsley Maitland-Niles adding the second on 15 minutes as Unai Emery's side levelled up the tie 3-3 on aggregate after their 3-1 defeat in France a week ago.

They will now meet Napoli in the quarter-finals as Emery targets Europa League success and a return to the Champions League in his maiden season as Arsenal head coach.

Arsenal have approached their Europa League round of 16 opponents Rennes over the potential signing of young forward Ismaila Sarr, after he impressed in his side's 3-1 victory in the tie's first leg.

"It's always very hard when you lose the first game", the 25-year-old stated post-match.

"We played Manchester United on Sunday and today against Rennes after we were away in the first leg", Emery said in his post-match press conference.

"Of course, we miss being there". There's a long way to go but with performances like that, we can compete.

"We didn't put ourselves in a good position at the end of that first leg".

Petr Cech says he is dreaming of ending his career with the Europa League in his hands and the pathway is open for Arsenal to meet his former club Chelsea in the final in Baku.

"It is not all like we wanted with the control, but I think as a competitive match, we did very well". When you perform at the level we did, you know you have a chance to go through.

The Europa League draw on Friday nicely allowed the two London sides to be separated all the way to the final, should they both proceed through the next two knockout rounds. We are more intelligent, we are more measured in our plans.

"It's also because it's one title and I think we can feel the possibility to win one title, doing this way with a hard moment like today and playing also against big teams".

Rennes were again unhappy with the Latvian officiating team when Alexandre Lacazette escaped a second yellow card before the French worldwide was replaced by Alex Iwobi.
