Mobile launches fixed wireless broadband service pilot for 50000 homes

While T-Mobile's ultimate plans involve providing home internet service over 5G, for the time being it has chose to test things out with a 4G LTE pilot program.

T-Mobile on Thursday announced that it's launching an invitation only pilot that will test in-home LTE Internet service in rural and underserved markets.

Besides expanded home Internet service, the post-merger T-Mobile "will be armed with spectrum and network assets that will build the highest capacity wireless network in U.S. history, covering millions with 5G, not just a few people in a few blocks of a few cities like the other guys", T-Mobile said today.

Samsung Galaxy A40 Leaked Renders Tip Infinity-U Display, Dual Rear Cameras
On the inside, the Samsung Galaxy A40 will employ the Exynos 7885 SoC, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. For camera duties, it offers a 13MP rear camera with F1.9 aperture and a 5MP front camera with face recognition.

If you're eligible to participate in the home broadband pilot, T-Mobile plans to start sending out invitations by email and regular mail this week. There are no contracts, no hidden fees, and no equipment charges, so $50 should be what you pay each month. The router will be upgraded to provide customers 5G services when they will be available in their region, at no additional costs. Immediately after announcing their merger, T-Mobile and Sprint claimed that "Neither company standing alone can create a nationwide 5G network with the breadth and depth required to fuel the next wave of mobile Internet innovation in the USA". However, it's yet unclear whether or not the monthly price will be increased when that happens.

Even if 5G services won't be as cheap as we want them to be, it's quite clear that thanks to competition customers will have at least a couple of alternatives that will fit their budget. The company has already announced that the two combined companies would be able to accelerate 5G network rollouts and has committed to not raise prices for three years and to keep 5G plans the same price as its current 4G LTE plans. A limited group of customers in rural and underserved communities will get high-speed fixed wireless service.

T-Mobile is doing everything in its power to ensure that its merger with Sprint passes muster with the USA government. Need cord cutting tech support?
