Two more Nintendo Switch variants will launch in 2019

Nintendo Switch

Nintendo is reportedly working on two different Switch gaming devices.

According the publication's sources, the first of these new devices will be aimed at budget gamers, and will see the Switch presented in a more traditional handheld-first format.

More information on the new rumored Switch models has surfaced, and one will apparently take a page out of Nintendo's 2DS book.

A source explained to WSJ that the new consoles might not be what you expect.

Amazon to launch mobile ads, in threat to Google and Facebook
Amazon is already faring better on the digital advertising space by increasing its market share by 2% in one year. Amazon has avoided selling advertising space on its site from years, not to disrupt shopping experience.

Moreover, both Nintendo Switch models may release a few months after the announcement, just before games such as Pokemon Sword and Shield hit the shelves. One will be cheaper than the Switch now is and will be positioned as a successor to the 3DS, while the other will offer "enhanced features targeted at avid videogamers", which presumably means it'll cost more. This will likely be marketed as a successor to the Nintendo 3DS and will come without features like controller vibration to keep costs low.

A cheaper Switch could help Nintendo sell online service subscriptions. That pricier option would sport "enhanced features targeted at avid video gamers". All signs point to Nintendo planning a big year for Switch, and for that party to start at or around E3.

Nonetheless, an updated Switch model has been rumoured for several months now, starting with a report from last October pointing to a new hardware release in the second half of 2019.

The third year of a console's life cycle is considered make or break for its long-term success. One thing that has remained consistent that this would be a mid-generation refresh that plays the same games, rather than a new generation of hardware. This seems like a reasonable bet, and the Switch is one cow Nintendo will be keen to squeeze the Lon Lon milk out of.
