Black boxes reveal Ethiopia plane's last moments before Boeing 737 Max crashed

Plane controls responsible for Ethiopia crash Report

Muscat: Ethiopian Airlines, on Thursday issued a statement on the crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET302, on 10 March this year, which took the lives of all 157 passengers and crew on board when the Boeing 737 Max 8 jet crashed just after take off from Addis Ababa.

Ethiopian Transport Minister Dagmawit Moges said it was too soon to say if there was a problem with the aircraft, but urged Boeing to review its advice.

Noting that the plane experienced multiple nose-dives, the report recommends that the aircraft's flight control system be reviewed by Boeing.

The disaster was the second such crash of a Max 8 jet in less than six months, and raised fears about the model's automated software, prompting the worldwide grounding of all similar planes now in service.

The software is at the center of investigations in the crash of Ethiopian Flight 302 last month and a Lion Air accident in Indonesia five months earlier.

Trump himself received a call from Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg two days after the Ethiopian Airlines crash, during which Muilenburg reportedly continued to uphold the Max 8's safety.

Boeing Co, whose shares rose 2.4 percent on Thursday but were still below their level before the crash, said its software fix for its anti-stall system would give pilots the authority to always override the system if activated by faulty sensor data.

Although further reports will made investigating the crash, this report did suggest that Boeing review the aircraft control system.

A statement from Ethiopian Airlines on their twitter said: "Despite [the pilots"] hard work and full compliance with emergency procedures, it was very unfortunate that that could not recover from the persistence of nose diving'.

Both pilots in the Ethiopian Airlines crash underwent additional training following the Lion Air incident.

Boeing last week gathered hundreds of pilots and reporters for a presentation on proposed MCAS changes - including the system no longer repeatedly making corrections when pilots try to regain control.

After first cranking a manual wheel in the cockpit that controls the same movable surfaces on the plane's tail that MCAS had affected, the pilots turned electric power back on, one of these people said.

It was previously reported that the jet's angle-of-attack sensor was damaged on takeoff from a foreign object or bird, which is said to have triggered inaccurate data and prompting the pilots to take control.

The investigation has now turned toward how MCAS was initially disabled by pilots following an emergency checklist procedure but then appeared to repeatedly start working again before the jet plunged to the ground, the people said.

Boeing has issued guidance to pilots on how to manage MCAS, and it plans to install an extra warning system on all 737 Max aircraft, which was previously an optional safety feature.

Boeing announced on Wednesday that it had developed software updates to "prevent erroneous data from causing MCAS activation".

In line with global rules on air incidents, the preliminary report did not attribute blame.
