Trump Ousts Secret Service Director

Trump fires Secret Service chief – reports

The president said after the meeting that she would be leaving her position and that CBP commissioner Kevin McAleenan would assume leadership of the agency in an acting capacity.

The departure of Alles follows the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, and Trump's decision to withdraw Ronald Vitiello, his nominee to head Immigration and Customs Enforcement, in favor of someone "tougher".

The White House, Department of Homeland Security and Secret Service did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters.

He told USA Today in a 2017 interview that the agency's funding problems were partly caused by the president's large family and their multiple, oft-visited Trump properties both in the US and overseas.

White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders said James Murray, a career Secret Service agent, would take over the Secret Service in May.

A senior administration official said Trump, who has recently expressed growing anger about the situation at the border, asked for Nielsen's resignation.

Head of the US Secret Service Randolph "Tex" Alles has been asked to leave as part of President Donald Trump's apparent shake-up of the Department of Homeland Security.

After Nielsen's departure, an empowered Stephen Miller, the immigration hawk White House senior adviser, is also eyeing the removal of Lee Francis Cissna, according to two of the people, the Associated Press reported.

Just five days ago, Trump said he "could not be happier with Secret Service" following the Mar-a-Lago incident.

The announcement of his departure comes a day after the ouster of DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.

Last week, a Chinese national was caught at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, in possession of a flash drive containing malware. "Very happy with them".

"The Secret Service does not determine who is invited or welcome at Mar-a-Lago; this is the responsibility of the host entity", the agency said.

Alles, a former US Marines general, was recommended to lead the secret service by former White House chief of staff John Kelly, also a former Marines general.

Alles had been in the role for two years and came into the job after serving time as a major general in the Marines.
