UK Issues Passports Without 'European Union' Title on Cover

Post-Brexit UK passports are expected to be blue but burgundy ones without the EU label are being issued

The burgundy passports were introduced from March 30, the day after Britain was expected to leave the EU.

But others such as Susan Hindle Barone, who received her new passport on Friday, said the move left her "truly appalled".

Dark blue passports are scheduled to be issued from the end of this year. I was surprised they've made the change when we haven't left, and it's a tangible mark of something that I believe to be completely futile. However, it said some newly-issued travel documents would still bear the bloc's name - which has sat atop British passport covers - in a bid to save public money. "It's not so much about that but it's the first tangible sign of us leaving the European Union".

Britain was supposed to leave the European Union on March 29, but requested a delay after parliament failed to approve a divorce deal the British government had negotiated with Brussels to minimise disruptions. "There's certainly a whole lot we lose", she said.

Britain's Conservative Party MP Jacob Rees-Mogg leaves his home, following the Brexit votes the previous evening, in London, Britain, March 28, 2019. March 30 was the original date set by the enacting of Article 50 for the exit of Britain from the European Union.

British PM Theresa May was forced to ask the bloc for another extension last Friday, requesting that the British Parliament would have until June 30 to strike a deal, to prevent the country crashing out this coming Friday without an agreement in place.

His partner Jan was "very unhappy" as she too wanted a United Kingdom passport without the European Union on it, according to Mr Brady.

At present, Britain's exit date is April 12, although European Union member states are mulling a new extension request by British Prime Minister Theresa May. Senior ministers are negotiating with Labour leaders in a bid to find a compromise to end months of political crisis and allow Britain to leave the European Union smoothly after 46 years of membership.

A British couple who applied for their passports on the same day received different versions - one with European Union on the cover, the other without.
