Next-generation iPhone XS could get an even bigger display

2019 iPhone

The company's 2019 iPhone lineup consists of a new LCD iPhone with a dual-camera setup, an OLED iPhone with dual cameras and another OLED iPhone model with a triple rear-facing camera setup.

However, a new report from Mac Otakara has now turned that assumption on its head with the suggestion that Apple may in fact be releasing two entirely new models in addition to refreshed versions of the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max.

The report also hints that the smaller iPhone will feature a 6.1-inch display, whereas the bigger iPhone will have a 6.5-inch screen.

Japanese Macotakara, citing "trustworthy" sources in China, claims this year's flagship iPhones will be available with 6.1- and 6.5-inch displays. Apparently there will be two new models that boast 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch OLED displays. The Wall Street Journal reported in January that only the successor to Apple's iPhone XS Max, which has a 6.5-inch screen, will get the triple-camera upgrade. The good news is that the slight increase in thickness of the 2019 iPhone line-up means that their camera humps won't protrude quite so much. If the report is believed to be true, then we can expect new iPhones product portfolio in addition to current successors of the trio of iPhones released previous year.

These new iPhones would be sized so that they could accommodate a triple-camera system on the iPhone, offering better image stability and performance. Right now, all iPhones offer a Lightning port for charging and the standard 5W USB power adapter. Its new display matches that of the iPhone XR in size. Macotakara says that both of these models are expected to ship with USB-C to Lightning cables with an 18W charger, as well as support for reverse wireless charging, which will give the upcoming iPhones the ability to charge the latest AirPods with Wireless Charging Case and other Qi-compatible devices.

Not only are the camera sensors themselves expected to be larger, but Macotakara claims they will be accompanied by larger lenses - the largest Apple has ever put into an iPhone.
