Police open fire after Ukrainian ambassador's auto rammed in west London

Scotland Yard confirmed that shots were fired by firearms officers

This is the moment armed police arrested a man who "deliberately and repeatedly rammed" his auto into the Ukrainian ambassador's vehicle outside the embassy in west London this morning, after officers opened fire to try and stop him.

"The official vehicle of the ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom was deliberately rammed as it sat parked in front of the embassy of Ukraine's building", said the embassy in a statement.

A man, who attacked the official vehicle of the ambassador of Ukraine in Great Britain Natalia Halibarenko, was taken into custody in London.

Officers attempted to block the vehicle, then fired shots with Tasers and live bullets after the Mercedes again drove into Galibarenko's auto - and also into police - at about 10am yesterday. As the spokesman explained, a person inside the auto that rammed into the diplomat's vehicle posed a threat and thus police had to open fire. "In response, the police were forced to open fire on the perpetrator's vehicle", it said. Nevertheless, despite the police actions, the attacker hit the Ambassador's auto again.

Police said the incident is not being treated as related to terrorism. The embassy says none of its staff was injured. Police did not report any injuries to the suspect.

A silver Mercedes raced (pictured middle, and right) towards Natalia Galibarenko's (inset top) parked vehicle outside the embassy building in Holland Park, crashing into it twice at around 10am.

Witnesses have said at least 10 shots were fired and Scotland Yard confirmed firearms and a Taser were used. He praised police for responding quickly.

The black vehicle was heavily scuffed on its right-hand side.

Footage showed armed police surround the vehicle before smashing the driver's window and using a Taser on the screaming suspect.

"He has been taken to a central London hospital as a precaution".

A police committee is investigating the officers' use of firearms.
