Boy, 5, thrown from shopping mall in Minneapolis - man arrested

Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda has been charged with attacking a 5-year-old boy at the Mall of America Friday. Cops said the child fell three floors after being pushed or thrown over a railing

For these past charges, Aranda was banned from the mall through July 2016. Police said Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, picked the boy at random and threw him over the balcony.

The child's mother asked everyone to pray, witnesses said, and security guards, patrons and police began performing CPR.

Landen was grabbed and thrown from the balcony onto the mall's tile flooring on Friday morning; Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, of Minneapolis, has been charged with attempted homicide.

"The child has been transported to the hospital and has been receiving care".

The name of the victim has not been released, and his family is asking for their privacy to be respected.

The 5-year-old boy "enjoys soccer, playing with friends and family and playing hockey with his brother and sister", according to the GoFundMe page.

Landen has been described as the "sweetest, kindest five-year-old you will ever meet" with a soft and gentle soul and the ability to bring a smile to everyone he meets.

The GoFundMe page said that Landen remains in stable condition, "contrary to the rumors and attention seekers out there stating that he has passed".

The boy, Landen Hoffmann of Woodbury, Minnesota, was tossed from the balcony on Friday and police have arrested the man they believe is responsible. He suffered life threatening injuries, many people who fall from that distance aren't as lucky to make it.

"He has many surgeries ahead in his life to try to get back to a normal life for a young, vibrant boy", Hanneman wrote. In a separate 2015 incident, Aranda threw a glass at an employee at a restaurant and was arrested and charged with trespassing, fifth-degree assault, obstructing the legal process and disorderly conduct, police said.

In one incident, he threw ice water and tea at a woman who refused to buy him food at a mall restaurant.

In total, Aranda had contact with the Bloomington Police Department three times in 2015 and has been arrested in other jurisdictions.

'This was a senseless act and words can not truly express our profound shock and sadness, ' the Mall of America said in a statement on Friday. Most no-trespass orders are in six-month or one-year increments.

Police are still investigating what the motive was as well.

Potts said he expects to turn the case over to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office on Monday for a decision on formal charges.

He said that cops had given the child first aid along with members of the public.
