Apple recalls United Kingdom plug adaptors over electric shock fears

Apple recalls plugs in UK, Hong Kong and Singapore

Apple has recalled two types of plug adapters and asked customers to stop using them because of a risk of electric shock. Obviously, that is not good.

The company launched a recall after being made aware of six incidents worldwide, adding that it doesn't affect any Apple USB power adapters.

The plugs, which were primarily shipped in the UK, Singapore and Hong Kong were shipped with Macs and some iOS devices between 2003 and 2010, and were included in Apple's World Travel Adapter Kit.

If you want to check your home or office tech, Apple says you are looking for adaptors that are "white, with no letters in the inside slot where it attaches to an Apple power adapter", which are different to later models.

Apple is also now recalling two-pronged adapters used in Continental Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Argentina and Brazil.

Rivian receives $500 million investment to help Ford develop electric trucks
Rivian has developed a range of electric cars created to focus on the great outdoors - a Tesla for the outward bound, if you will. Assuming regulatory approval, the two will form a strategic partnership, with Ford taking a minority stake in Rivian.

So what do you do if you think you have one of the affected adaptors?

The countries affected mention Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom, but Malaysia was not part of the list despite sharing similar power outlets, so that is worth noting.

What if my plug is affected? Apple has set up a series of website whereby those who have the faulty products can request an exchange for a new replacement plug that has been assessed as not carrying the same safety risk. In contrast, newer plugs from Apple (which are not affected) white with grey on the inside. Apple will need to verify your Mac, iPad, iPhone or iPod serial number as part of the exchange process so please find your serial number in advance.

A similar scenario happened in 2016 when the company issued a recall of its two-pronged power adaptors designed for use in Continental Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Argentina, and Brazil due to the same risk of electrical shock if touched.
