Black Mirror season 5 trailer reveals release date

Miley Cyrus Black Mirror

It's been almost 18 months since the last full season of Netflix's acclaimed, sci-fi anthology satire Black Mirror was released, and expectations are high for Season 5. The series is created and written by Charlie Brooker, and executive produced by Brooker and Annabel Jones. All of them look to be linear, normal stories, rather than the interactive special we saw from the Black Mirror team, Bandersnatch, which premiered on the streaming service around the world in December 2018. But those three episodes will possibly be the most star-studded Black Mirror has seen yet, with Miley Cyrus, Anthony Mackie, Andrew Scott, and Topher Grace among the big names starring in the anthology series.

What the episode is about, or when it will be released, remains a secret for now, but we would imagine it will be around Christmas, based on previous seasons. It remains to be seen whether Cyrus actually performs her own songs in Season 5, but I'm choosing to keep hope alive that we'll get a synth version of "Wrecking Ball" in the near future. As mentioned, there will be three different stories told in season 5.

THR broke the news, which includes casting information and a trailer (embedded at the top of the article).

The surprise trailer was first teased by the Black Mirror Twitter account, which shared a mysterious message at around 6AM EST.

Dozens feared dead as migrant boat capsizes off Tunisia

That's right, the new Captain America will be playing a role in the new season.

As the robot urges a girl (Angourie Rice) to knock her 20,000 fans dead, it seems the episode could follow themes explored in season three's Nosedive.

Netflix has unveiled the first official trailer for the highly-anticipated fifth season of Black Mirror. What do you think of the teaser for Season 5?
