Impeachment Debate Splits Democrats, Putting Pressure on Speaker Pelosi

Amash said

In a series of tweets on Saturday, the MI congressman said attempts to obstruct justice as outlined in special counsel Robert Mueller's report on Russian interference in the 2016 election amounted to "impeachable conduct".

Mueller's report "identifies multiple examples of conduct satisfying all the elements of obstruction of justice, and undoubtedly any person who is not the president of the United States would be indicted based on such evidence", Amash wrote.

"There is a logical reason for that". Pelosi is dealing with rising calls for impeachment proceedings against President Trump.

Trump responded on Sunday by calling Amash a "loser" and a "total lightweight who opposes me and some of our great Republican ideas and policies just for the sake of getting his name out there through controversy". "But at the same time, Congressman Amash has been very open about his opinions about President Trump", says Freeman. But, he said he still expected Amash to be re-elected again to Congress next year.

State Representative Jim Lower (R-Greenville) says he will challenge Amash for the Republican spot on the 2020 ticket.

In a demonstration of the hold Trump maintains over the Republican party, Amash was swiftly and comprehensively rejected by his own colleagues. He reportedly pointed to a federal judge's ruling Monday to uphold a Democratic subpoena as evidence the courts could bolster oversight of the Trump administration. He has since doubled-down on his call and has faced harsh criticism from House GOP leaders who have dismissed him as an outlier with minimal influence in the party.

President Trump weighs in on abortion debate
Terri Collins, said legislators crafted the bill specifically to force the Supreme Court to reconsider its 1973 ruling on Roe vs. He continued that the " Radical Left , with late term abortion (and worse), is imploding on this issue".

"While impeachment should be undertaken only in extraordinary circumstances, the risk we face in an environment of extreme partisanship is not that Congress will employ it as a remedy too often but rather that Congress will employ it so rarely that it can not deter misconduct", Amash wrote.

Amash did not spare Attorney General William Barr either, concluding that Barr "intended to mislead the public" about Mueller's report and banking on the notion that most Americans would not read it for themselves.

"Contrary to Barr's portrayal, Mueller's report reveals that President Trump engaged in specific actions and a pattern of behavior that meet the threshold for impeachment", he continued.

Mueller concluded there had been no criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russian intel during the 2016 presidential election, but left it up to Congress to determine whether there had been obstruction.

The Justice Department, which Barr leads, operates under guidelines that discourage the indictment of a sitting president. David Cicilline of Rhode Island, Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Joe Neguse of Colorado - all members of Democratic leadership - pushed to begin impeachment proceedings during a leadership meeting in Pelosi's office, said the sources. And yet another that says, "While impeachment should be undertaken only in extraordinary circumstances, the risk we face I an environment of extreme partisanship is not that Congress will employ it as a remedy too often but rather that Congress will employ it so rarely that it can not deter misconduct".
