A Knights of the Old Republic Movie is Being Written

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic could be getting the movie treatment

Lucasfilm might be developing a movie based on the 2003 BioWare RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

Knights of the Old Republic takes place 4,000 years before the events of the Star Wars prequels and centers around the clash between the Sith and Republic. According to sources, Laeta Kalogridis, who previously worked on Alita: Battle Angel, is now writing the screenplay.

Kalogridis was reportedly hired to develop the script in Spring 2018, and is allegedly close to finishing the first script of a potential KOTOR trilogy.

Lucasfilm confirmed that a new Star Wars movie is slated for release in December, 2022, and that Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are to produce it.

The Star Wars franchise is beloved by entire generations of fans, so the pressure is on for J.J. Abrams to deliver with The Rise of Skywalker. It makes sense that Lucasfilm is planning multiple trilogies, as the brand keeps making money.

The news comes at a time of uncertainty for the franchise. On the other hand, her IMDb credits don't always inspire the most confidence, and she was nominated for a Razzie at one point. This presents me with a bit of a conundrum, as I have long pushed for a female writer to join the new Star Wars universe. However, despite intense demand from fans, we've still never seen a proper film or TV adaptation. Once again, most of us assumed that it would indeed be Benioff and Weiss' projects. She could be a lifelong KotOR fan who is the flawless choice, and I shouldn't write her off just because she's made some bad films. It is now being written by Laeta Kalogridis who is best known for her work on Shutter Island and Terminator: Genisys.
