First satellites for Musk's Starlink internet venture launched into orbit

Musk Tesla SpaceX

After those hurdles were cleared, Falcon 9 blasted through the dark Florida coast and headed to space with a typically dazzling lift off. The first-stage booster landed on an ocean platform, as the tightly packed cluster of satellites continued upward.

Large constellations of satellites, such as those launched by SpaceX this week, could clutter Earth's orbit with risky space junk, experts have warned. Mr. Musk stated that reaching the target of 12000 satellites would be a highly successful outcome but that target is yet to be reached as COO Gwynne stated that there are likely to be between three to seven launches of Starlink satellites this year.

Starlink will become operational once 800 satellites have been activated, which will require a dozen more launches.

The payload weighs around 30,000 pounds, which is the heaviest payload that has been delivered by a Falcon 9 rocket.

President Trump: Once Democrats finish fake investigations, we can start real work
He also accused Democrats of holding a meeting the same morning to discuss what he called "the I word" - impeachment . Most of his fellow Republicans dismiss the investigations as political assaults ahead of the 2020 election.

An hour later, the rocket began to release the satellites at an altitude of 280 miles (450 kilometers). Since that structure had no deployment mechanism, the satellites simply floated apart from each other like a deck of cards, as SpaceX described it. The single solar array design is to minimize the potential points of failure, and in orbit, the array folds out like an accordion. It's the first dedicated mission for Starlink, which ultimately aims to number 12,000 satellites.

They represent the initial phase of a planned constellation capable of beaming signals for high-speed internet service from space to paying customers around the globe. When he announced "SpaceX Seattle" in 2015, Musk painted a picture of the satellite constellation now taking shape.

In fact, OneWeb has already launched several of its internet satellites from French Guiana into space back in February.

In each network, the tiny satellites orbit closer to Earth than traditional communications satellites, a technological shift made possible by advances in laser technology and computer chips. It'll be partnering both with Virgin Orbit and Blue Origin to get their satellites into space.
