While the party can count on the support of one Independent MLA for sure, a BJP leader claimed the other independent MLA, who now supports the coalition, could switch sides should the need arise. The unopposed candidates of the party include Kento Jini from Along East constituency in West Siang district, Taba Tedir from Yachuli seat in Lower Subansiri district and Phurpa Tsering from Dirang seat in West Kameng district.

Samajwadi Party had fielded its Rampur MLA Mohammad Azam Khan from the Lok Sabha seat of the same name. Some turncoats however managed to win the general election. The lone seats in Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim too went to polls in this phase.

Elections in Karnataka were held on April 18 and April 23.

However, Rajasthan Chief Minister Gehlot's son Vaibhav Gehlot was trailing from Jodhpur Lok Sabha seat in Rajasthan.

The poor performance of the Congress party in the election was especially bitter after it was expected to make notable gains in this poll, even if the BJP was tipped to win. This is a big boost for the party before the next assembly elections in the state scheduled for 2021.
