Robert Pattinson is officially the next Batman

REPORT: Pattinson and Hoult Screen Testing for THE BATMAN

Robert Pattinson was considered a heavy favourite to land the role but he was seemingly facing off against Nicholas Hoult to see who the studio prefers.

The news comes after weeks of speculation that Pattinson would be cast, and confirmation that he was among one of the frontrunners in the process.

Earlier reports that Pattinson and "Tolkien" star Nicholas Hoult were the front-runners for the role had some observers skeptical that the "Twilight" actor was a good fit as the Caped Crusader.

The film will begin production this summer. However, a Warner Bros. spokesman indicated a deal had not been made with Pattinson.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. have approved Pattinson to play the superhero in the upcoming The Batman trilogy that Matt Reeves will direct later this year.

Terrifying scenes as man sets himself on fire by White House lawn
Park Police administered first aid, and the man was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital. Park Police Criminal Investigation Division is still investigating.

There will be plenty of time to debate the new superhero either way, as The Batman now looks to come out on June 25, 2021.

The casting decision ultimately came down to two contenders, but it looks like audiences are indeed going to see Robert Pattinson as Batman in director Matt Reeves' new movie. Both films received mixed reviews and were a disappointment for Warner its efforts to compete with Marvel Studios in the superhero realm.

Pattison, 33, will be replacing Ben Affleck, 46, who previously starred as Batman. Reports from the USA suggest that Robert Pattinson will be the new Batman.

Fans of Batman shared their thoughts on Twitter, with many against the casting while others supported the idea of Pattinson in the role.

Affleck took on the role of Bruce Wayne and Batman for a total of two movies: the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice flick that premiered in 2016 and Justice League in 2017.
