Justice Dept to Hand Over Underlying Evidence for Mueller Report

On Monday, the Judiciary panel heard from former White House counsel John Dean, who was instrumental 46 years ago in the downfall of another US president, Richard Nixon.

"In many ways the Mueller report is to President Trump what the so-called Watergate roadmap. was to President Richard Nixon", said Dean, whose congressional testimony in 1973 ultimately lead to the resignation of Nixon.

The report also outlined 10 instances in which Trump tried to interfere with Mueller's investigation but declined to make a judgment on whether that amounted to obstruction of justice.

Dean is a CNN contributor and has been critical of Trump.

"Don McGahn, voluntarily and with the president's approval, already met with Robert Mueller in a report that is now public and they are asking him to testify on issues he has already disclosed information on", Rossi said.

He said, 'No, John's been a loser for a long time. Other than that, he's doing a great job'.

Mr. Dean told the panel Mr. Trump's firing of former FBI Director James Comey paralleled Mr. Nixon's "Saturday night massacre" firing of special counsel Archibald Cox. Both have been told by Trump's White House lawyers not to testify.

While Democrats pushed Mr. Dean to illustrate comparisons between the two presidents, the committee's ranking Republican, Doug Collins of Georgia, questioned the goal of his testimony.

House Democrats reject that rationale, and Nadler said on Monday he still wants documents from McGahn - and to see McGahn at his witness table.

Contempt of Congress proceedings against Attorney General William Barr are suspended for the time being following news that the Department of Justice has reached a subpoena compliance agreement with House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y.

Another American died in the Dominican Republic. Officials insist country is ‘safe.’
None of the deaths involved violence and they do not appear to be connected, Dominican authorities told the State Department. Wallace's death came about a month before three other American tourists died at another Dominican Republic resort .

Mr. Dean last testified before the same committee in July 1974. Dean pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice for his role in the scandal and was sent to prison for four months. The two sides gave contradicting interpretations on whether the report proved that the Trump administration obstructed justice.

While Mr. Jordan was speaking, Mr. Nadler cut him off accusing the OH lawmaker of casting aspersions on the witness.

Nadler's Republican colleague Doug Collins of Georgia meanwhile argued that "if we were attacked, then the priorities should be to go on the battle fields and not to the sideshow".

"This is all conjecture in legal posturing", he said. "Accordingly, I sincerely hope that Mr. McGahn will voluntarily appear and testify". "Mueller has provided this committee with a road map", Dean said.

"The Trump administration is in fast competition with what happened in the Nixon administration", he said.

On Tuesday, the House has scheduled the vote to authorize lawsuits against Barr and former White House counsel Donald McGahn for failing to comply with subpoenas from the Democratic-controlled House.

The Democratic leadership has to date refused to initiate impeachment proceedings for fear that they would bring to the surface an unprecedented crisis of constitutional rule in America, to which Trump might respond by appealing to his fascistic base and the military brass to resist arms in hand.

The event with Team Penske had previously been listed as closed to press and in the Oval Office, but the White House announced minutes before it began that it would be held near the Rose Garden and journalists could attend.

"We are pleased the Committee has agreed to set aside its contempt resolution and is returning to the traditional accommodation process", said Department of Justice spokesperson Kerri Kupec in a statement emailed to Blaze Media.

"These are not the actions of someone attempting to obstruct an ongoing investigation", Malcolm said.
