Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez says the target was another man, dressed similarly to Ortiz, who was seated with the ex-baseball star on the night of the June 9 shooting at a bar in Santo Domingo.

For the first time, authorities also revealed a motive for the shooting.

CNN obtained Dominican court documents that reveal new details in the shooting, including the name of the person accused of paying for the attempted hit, identified as Alberto Miguel Rodriguez Mota.

Dominican authorities have said the coordinator of the attack was paid 400,000 Dominican pesos, or about $7,800, to plan the hit on Ortiz.

A massive search in the Dominican Republic continued Tuesday for Rodriguez Mota and two other suspects in the alleged attempted hit job - Luis Alfredo Rivas-Clase, who also goes by the nickname "The Surgeon", and Maria Fernanda Villasmil Manzanilla, authorities said.

While Dominican investigators suspect Rodriguez doled out the money to the suspects who stalked the 43-year-old Ortiz to the Dial Bar and Lounge, where he was shot, they have not publicly pegged him as the ringleader.

Samsung denies rumours that it’s launching Galaxy Fold in July
Unlike Samsung's glitch-ridden Fold, the smartphone's 8in "FullView" OLED display folds completely flat with no visible crease. This means that Huawei is testing their handset further to make sure everything is OK with the device before it goes on sale.

"Trust the authorities", he said.

Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz has been upgraded to good condition at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston as he recovers from a gunshot wound he suffered during a murder attempt in the Dominican Republic earlier this month.

Ortiz continues his recovery in a Boston hospital. "We all want more information, but we have to wait".

Ortiz had to have "portions of his intestines, colon and his gallbladder" removed to stop internal bleeding, according to his assistant Leo Lopez.

As Ortiz now lays at a Boston area hospital, there have been more details emerging of his case and it's revealing how Ortiz's life had been in danger weeks prior to him being shot.

Ortiz was a clutch designated hitter for the Red Sox as they broke the World Series curse in 2004 and won two more championships in 2007 and 2013 before retiring in 2016.
