Stephanie Grisham, spokesperson for first lady Melania Trump, arrives for a campaign rally with President Donald Trump in Orlando, Fla., on June 18, 2019.

Stephanie Grisham has been named as Donald Trump's new press secretary and communications director, replacing Sarah Sanders.

Grisham has been with the Trumps since 2015, when she was a campaign staffer.

In addition to becoming White House press secretary, Ms Grisham will also take on the job of White House communications director, a strategic and forward-looking role that has been vacant since March, when former Fox News Channel executive Bill Shine departed.

Grisham was viewed internally as the candidate with the best rapport with President Trump, a key requirement. She then served on the transition team and as then-press secretary Sean Spicer's deputy before moving to the East Wing, where she has won the support of the first lady.

Stories regarding Grisham also began to circulate this week, including the first lady not wanting to let her go, as she began to look like a clear favorite.

As Trump mulled who he'd like to replace Sanders anonymous rumors of sex, laziness and criminal behavior have spread around White House, according to the Washington Examiner.

Instead, the White House has used press releases, Trump's Twitter account and TV interviews to get the message out, with Sanders and Trump sometimes answering questions in brief appearances in the White House driveway or before boarding Marine One.

Who do Norfolk MPs want to be the next prime minister?
He then apparently refused to leave the flat and shouted " get off my [bleep] laptop" before a loud crashing noise was heard. Police said officers found that all occupants were " safe and well " and no offenses had been committed.

Calling her time at the White House "the honour of a lifetime", Mrs Sanders said she would be returning to Arkansas at the end of June to spend more time with her family.

Sanders said earlier this month she's leaving the Trump administration.

"By the way, a woman who has been so good, so talented, so wonderful and we're sort of going to be losing, I have a feeling she's going to be running for a certain gubernatorial position", Trump told an enthusiastic crowd before inviting Sanders to join him on stage. Grisham will keep her current job too.

'I've learned a long time ago never to rule anything out, ' she said during a talk with reporters in her office in the West Wing.

The source said that Grisham was a "risk-free move for the administration in the run-up to perhaps the most important election in American history".

Mr Trump seemed to suggest relations would not be as contentious under Ms Grisham's leadership.

Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who worked with Grisham on the campaign, called it a "great choice".
