Donald Trump threatens `obliteration` as Iran slams sanctions on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

Trump says 'did not send that message' to Tehran warning of attack

U.S. President Donald Trump targeted Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other top Iranian officials with sanctions on Monday.

"Well, I hope we don't", he said when asked if the United States was going to war.

Trump told Fox Business Network on Wednesday that he was "nice" to Iran for not ordering strikes after Tehran shot down a more than $100 million us surveillance drone. He added, "It wouldn't last very long, I can tell you that".

President Donald Trump threatened Iran with forceful retaliation for any attack on the us after the Islamic Republic ruled out talks to resolve escalating tensions between the two nations.

After the US imposed a new round of sanctions against Iran, a spokesman for the country's Foreign Ministry said the chance of diplomacy between Washington and Tehran is over.

Rouhani described the White House as "mentally retarded", an insult Iran used in the past about Trump.

Trump signed an executive order imposing the sanctions, which US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said would lock billions of dollars more in Iranian assets.

Iran said on Tuesday it will formally withdraw from a nuclear deal with world powers next week, after the United States issued tough new sanctions on leaders of the country.

Hannah Green wins KPMG Women's PGA Championship
Green needed just 23 putts on Thursday and her best shot came on the par-five seventh when she holed a bunker shot for a birdie. Green has never been this well positioned on the big stage and that could well work well if she keeps going like this.

President Trump said that this could be as early as tomorrow or could take years, but followed that comment up with this one: "We cannot ever let Iran have a nuclear weapon".

On June 20, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) downed an "intruding American spy drone" - RQ-4 Global Hawk - after it violated Iranian airspace over the southern coastal province of Hormozgan.

Trump's series of tweets slammed the Iranian regime, warning it not to mess with American power, as he wrote, "Iran leadership doesn't understand the words "nice" or "compassion", they never have".

National Security Adviser John Bolton told reporters Tuesday in Jerusalem before a meeting with Israeli and Russian officials that the door is wide open for Iran. Trump later called off a counter-strike, saying it would have killed too many Iranians.

The Iranian president also spoke about the downing of a USA surveillance drone last week and said, "It is not militarily easy to locate an aerodynamic drone" and "we kiss the hands of the Revolutionary Guards and the defense ministry" for shooting down the American drone. Then Iran is threatening to increase its stockpile of enriched uranium allowed under the deal.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani speaks during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Sochi, Russia, on February 14, 2019. Fox News reported, "Fox News has confirmed that the USA military also carried out a cyberattack against Iran last Thursday even as the president nixed plans for airstrikes in response to the downing of an American drone".

Rouhani also criticized US officials for wanting to sanction Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
