Real-life sequel to pan-Asian hit romance ends in divorce

The celebrity couple met while filming the 2016 hit drama series Descendants Of The Sun

South Korean superstar couple Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo are seeking a divorce to end their celebrity marriage of less than two years.

"I have begun the process of filing for divorce from Song Hye Kyo", Joong-ki said, as quoted by his legal counsel Park Jae-hyun.

Joong Ki and Hye Kyo worked together in the 2016 drama "Descendants of the Sun", which became a big hit not only in its native South Korea but also across Asia.

In a press release, Song Joong-ki said Thursday morning that he submitted the paperwork to the Seoul Family Court the previous day.

"I am sorry to give the bad news to those who love and support me", he said. "Both of us hope to settle the divorce process in a smooth manner, rather than debating wrongdoing and blaming each other".

"Park Bo-gum, who recently starred in the drama with Song Hye-kyo, is unexpectedly mentioned in the rumor".
