In a new Department of Homeland Security Inspector General report, a Border Patrol manager called the situation at migrant detention facilities a "Ticking time bomb".

A secret Facebook group for Border Patrol agents that included sexually explicit posts has put the agency on the defensive.

In that group, they could reportedly be seen posting jokes about migrant deaths and vulgar comments about Latina lawmakers.

"The real story I would submit to you on the border crisis and our response is about our Border Patrol agents who have chosen a career about protecting others", he said.

"I think there should be a congressional investigation as well as an Inspector General investigation", he said.

Democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) celebrated America's birthday by attacking federal law enforcement officials that are charged with protecting the nation's borders, spreading misleading information, and engaging in partisan attacks.

Judd went on to defend Border Patrol agents and pushed back against Ocasio-Cortez's claim, lodged earlier this week that women held in detention on the border were being instructed to drink water from the toilets, pointing out that the claim was based "a single female detainee".

The Facebook group, called "The Real CBP Nation", has around 1,000 members and includes memes taunting Ocasio-Cortez, an image mocking the separation of migrant families, and derisive images of minority groups.

The Trump administration's acting Homeland Security chief launched an investigation into offensive Facebook posts allegedly written by DHS personnel about Latino lawmakers and migrant detainees.

Last week, Congress passed a $4.6 billion emergency aid package to improve conditions at temporary shelters housing migrants.

Migrant families held at an overcrowded Border Patrol station in Weslaco, Texas, on June 11, 2019.

The U.S. government auditors visited the facilities in South Texas where migrant adults and children who crossed the nearby border with Mexico are processed and detained.

The report was released a day after a group of Democratic congressmen visited the Border Patrol facility in Clint, Texas, on the other side of the state, where lawyers previously reported some 250 children being detained in squalid conditions. Ocasio-Cortez has when compared the Trump administration's border detention facilities to "concentration camps", eliciting criticism that she used to be minimizing the Holocaust.

McAleenan, a former head of U.S. Customs and Border Protection before being tapped to lead DHS after Kirstjen Nielsen's ouster, had been sounding the alarm for months on what he says is a breaking point at border facilities. More than 50 children under age 7 were waiting to be moved to long-term facilities, some of them for more than two weeks.

Commenters also questioned the authenticity of a viral photo of a drowned man and his younger daughter.

"The problem we're having at the border, a problem that Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez has helped create, is that we have 5,000 people a day, not a week, not a month, a day coming into this country".

You mean Ocasio-Cortez placed her perceived moral values above facts?
