Jeffrey Epstein arrested in NY, charged with sex trafficking

Jeffrey Epstein is shown in custody in West Palm Beach Fla. in July 2008

News reports Epstein was flying from Paris to NY and was arrested Saturday.

The Daily Beast, which first broke the story, reports that, based on several sources, Epstein's yet to be unsealed indictment includes one count of sex trafficking of minors and one count of conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of minors.

Epstein allegedly operated an global child sex ring at his Palm Beach, Florida, mansion and 72-acre private island estate in the Caribbean.

He is expected to appear before a federal magistrate on Monday to face charges involving allegations that date to the 2000s on Monday, the websites reported.

Criminal defense lawyer Gene Rossi told Law&Crime that it was "extremely bad news" for Epstein that the case was being handled by the Southern District of New York's Public Corruption Unit because "they don't play nice".

Among the prosecutors who made that 2007 deal was Alex Acosta, then the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida and now U.S. Secretary of Labor for President Donald Trump.

The second round clash which will hold at the Alexandria Stadium in Alexandria, Egypt will kick off at 5 pm Nigerian time . Despite the three goals, the route to goal is still muddied while the defence isn't as water-tight as imagined.

"If today's report is true, it only proves that the Epstein should have been charged by federal prosecutors twelve years ago in Florida", Paul Cassell, co-counsel along with Edwards for victims Jane Doe 1 and 2 in the case challenging the DOJ over the non-prosecution agreement with Epstein, said in a statement. Under the plea deal, he was afforded a work-release program that allowed him to leave the jail for 12 hours a day six days a week and work unsupervised at his downtown West Palm Beach office. If convicted on both charges, the 66-year-old might be sentenced to up to 45 years behind bars.

In February of this year, a US district judge in Florida ruled that prosecutors violated the federal Crime Victims' Rights Act by not letting more than 30 identified victims know of the deal so they would have a chance to oppose it. Some of the girls were allegedly transported to his homes in New York City, New Mexico, and a private Caribbean island, according to court documents. Epstein is alleged to have had girls invited under the pretext of massage, paid them cash and sexually abused them.

Miami Herald investigative reporter Julie K. Brown said on Sunday that there are "very powerful people" who are "sweating a little bit" over Epstein's arrest because they could become suspects tied to the case.

The deal also required financial settlements to dozens of Epstein's victims. Acosta, now US Secretary of Labour, allegedly failed to clear the agreement with many of Epstein's 30 alleged victims, who said they would have opposed the 13-month sentence Epstein ultimately served.

Earlier this year, a federal judge ruled that the deal did, in fact, violate the rights of Epstein's victims.
