Trump v. Big Tech: Social media summit will snub tech titans

Watch live: Trump touts environmental leadership in speech

Asked whether tech companies may be acting illegally and whether the Justice Department should determine that, Trump replied, "Well, they could be and I don't want to even say whether or not they're doing something, but I will tell you, there are a lot of people that want us.to take action against Facebook and against Twitter and, frankly, against Amazon".

According to the Pew survey, veterans were almost split on whether the president pays enough attention to the advice of senior military leaders.

Forty-five percent of veterans said they believe Trump doesn't listen to his military leaders enough, while a similar share said Trump listens about the right amount. John Matze, the libertarian CEO of Parler, a Twitter alternative used by Trump supporters, said he had tracked the IP address to ensure his invitation was real.

These findings come from a spring 2019 Pew Research report that distributed parallel surveys to 1,284 military veterans and 1,087 non-veteran Americans.

"I will not stand for it", he said.

It's a sharp contrast to earlier days in Trump's tenure when tech executives were occasional celebrity guests at the White House, serving as a fresh indication of the president's escalating battle with Big Tech.

Veterans were somewhat more likely to approve than disapprove of withdrawing the U.S. from the Iran nuclear weapons agreement, 53% to 46%, and of sending troops to the U.S. -Mexico border, 58% to 41%.

"Who knows if he's going to say something to the wrong person and start another war?" said Cavallaro, a political independent.

The general public's views are almost identical: 62% of Americans overall say the Iraq war was not worth it, while 32% say it was; 59% of the public says the war in Afghanistan was not worth fighting, less than 40% say it was.

A Pew Research Center report published Wednesday states that 64% - or nearly two-thirds - of veterans polled in a new survey said the Iraq war "was not worth fighting", and 58% said the same about the war in Afghanistan.

Wheeler said that deal put more burdens on the United States than on other countries, and the USA would consider a more equitable agreement. It conducted a parallel survey of 1,087 USA adults May 14-24 to compare findings.
