See the moment Simona Halep took down Serena Williams in Wimbledon final

Williams will play for her eighth Wimbledon title

The pair proudly cheered on Serena Williams, Meghan's pal, as she competed against Romania's Simona Halep in the Women's Singles Final, ultimately ending in defeat for the American superstar.

Seventh seed Simona Halep crushed eight-time victor Serena Williams in straight sets to win the women's singles title of the Wimbledon championships here on Saturday.

She added: "I have worked a lot to change my game, to be able to win matches on grass".

Williams managed to get on the board but in 26 minutes she was down a set and half an hour later the match was over.

When time was called, she took a deep breath, exhaling as her shoulders sank down without tension, and headed back on the court to finish what she had started against Serena Williams.

Simona Halep stressed the importance of the victory to her and her family in the post-match interview.

Simona Halep served with pinpoint accuracy, chased down every ball and played the match of her life to beat Serena Williams and win the Wimbledon title.

"It was a little bit a deer in headlights for me".

"When a player plays like that, you just have to take your hat off", she said.

The closest previous compatriot was Ilie Nastase, who lost the 1972 men's final to Stan Smith.

Showing off the talents and traits that lifted her to number one in the rankings and four previous grand slam finals - but only one previous major title, at last year's French Open - Halep got off to an impossibly flawless start. It was my mum's dream when I was about 10.

India holds bright spot as ISRO eyes dark side of the Moon
The aim of the mission, using India's strongest GSLV MKIII launcher, is to land a robotic rover on the moon near the South Pole. On Sunday, the actor took to Twitter to give ISRO his best wishes for their next mission titled Mission Chandrayaan - 2.

"I have to play the final of Wimbledon so the day came, so to my mom, thanks". I knew she's very emotional. "My stomach was not well before the match, but I came on court and gave my best".

Halep grew in stature and could not miss.

WIMBLEDON victor Simona Halep follows only two people on Twitter - including British snooker ace Mark Selby.

Williams would place a hand on her hip.

Williams served 45 aces en route to the final but it was Halep who served the first one on Saturday to move 4-0 ahead. But even after her rare bright spots, she could never get any momentum going.

"Serena, wake up" came a shout from the crowd, but every time she thought she had hit a victor, back it came, and Halep wrapped up the opening set in just 26 minutes.

Halep received those comments and said she will take them on board for future reference in more grand slam finals.

Per Sports Illustrated, Williams has the the edge and then some-commanding a 9-1 advantage over Halep, including when the two faced off at Wimbledon 2011.

Halep has previously lost against Williams nine times out of ten, but in the final there was no contest.

The end came quickly.

"The day I stop fighting for equality and for people that look like you and me", Williams said, "will be the day I'm in my grave".
