Trump Calls Cummings ‘Racist’ as Twitter War Escalates

Trump's social media attack was apparently in response to criticism of migrant handling

Charm City isn't exactly bothering to be charming after the president of the United States attacked Baltimore as a "very unsafe & filthy place" that is the "Worst in the USA" and a "rat and rodent infested mess".

The Republican president, in a series of Twitter posts, directly tied his criticism of Rep. Elijah Cummings and Sharpton as well as his ongoing attacks on four racial and ethnic minority Democratic congresswomen dubbed the "squad" to his 2020 re-election bid. Trump on Sunday responded to criticism of his comments by accusing Democrats of playing the "race card".

"It is despicable for you to attack him and the people of Baltimore this way", Biden wrote. "When the leaders of Baltimore want to see the City rise again, I am in a very lovely oval shaped office waiting for your call!" he added.

"The president is concerned about the whole nation, about everybody in the nation", said Alveda King, a niece of the slain civil rights icon Martin Luther King. "Not tear it down".

Rep. Elija Cummings, a Democrat, chairs the House Oversight Committee, which is investigating the Trump administration on a number of fronts, including Russian Federation, whether Trump has violated the Constitution's emoluments clause, voting rights and security clearances.

"I understand that everything that Donald Trump says is offensive to some people", Mulvaney said.

Democrats reacted with fury at Trump's remarks, calling them "racist" and unpatriotic. Coming from anyone else, they would certainly spell political doom.

He continued to defend border conditions and rant about Cummings' district in another tweet.

"Our President has a hate agenda".

Dallas Cowboys Leadership "Not Alarmed" by Ezekiel Elliott’s Absence
He also talked a little bit about the natural deadline that comes with the start of the regular season about six weeks away. In three seasons with the Cowboys, Elliott has rushed for over 4,000 yards (1,333 yards per season).

Sanders, a Democratic presidential candidate, said a president should be uniting the country.

Obama, who has rarely spoken out since leaving office in 2017, retweeted the piece on Saturday.

Mr Trump's weekend remarks disparaging Elijah Cummings, a House of Representatives Democrat and a longtime civil rights champion, drew charges of racism from Democrats, an accusation Mr Trump denied.

White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney defended the comments during appearances on two Sunday morning talks shows, saying Cummings was wrong to criticize the work of USA immigration officers on the Mexican border.

"When the president hears lies like that, he's going to fight back", Mulvaney told "Fox News Sunday".

Trump appeared to dig a deeper hole even as a top White House aide sought to dismiss the controversy by describing Trump's comments as hyperbole.

"The president is, as he usually is, or often is, disgusting and racist". He said Trump in the 2006 photo was telling Sharpton "why he respects my work". Is he saying people that live in Baltimore are not human beings? Bernie Sanders (I-VT) wasn't called a racist when he likened Baltimore's poverty to the "Third World". I mean if you want to help us, help us.

Mr Cummings was born in Baltimore, lives there still and did a bachelor's degree in the Maryland city as well as a Juris doctorate. It has one of the country's highest murder rates. In fact, if anything, that disparity should reflect poorly on the district, not, as much of the media has attempted to paint it, a net positive for Cummings or Baltimore. "I did, from the day I was brought home from the hospital to the day I left for college, and a lot of people I care about still do".
