At least 10 may be dead in Dayton, Ohio, gunfire

The shooting took place in the early hours of Sunday in the centre of the city, the Dayton Daily News newspaper reported. The shooting happened as the suspect was making his way toward a bar called Ned Peppers, Montgomery County Emergency Services spokeswoman Deb Decker said.

The shooter had a.223-caliber gun with high-capacity magazine and was wearing body armor, she said. Police are investigating the incident and have been joined by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to Dayton Police Department's Twitter account.

Police officers who were on routine patrol nearby arrived on the scene in less than a minute and shot the attacker dead, likely preventing a much higher casualty toll, police and the city's mayor said.

"Police were working to identify the shooter and the Federal Bureau of Investigation were on scene to provide any necessary assistance", he said. Lt. Col. Matt Carper said at a press conference that the suspect was shot to death by responding officers.

Boston Celtics rumors: National Basketball Association 2019 Christmas schedule includes Toronto Raptors vs. Celtics
But according to Shams Charania of The Athletic , the league is expected to go in a slightly different direction this year. Toronto will be entering this season without superstar forward Kawhi Leonard after losing him in free agency.

A spokesperson for Kettering Health Network, which operates several hospitals in the area, say they were expecting and receiving victims from the shooting - but did not give any indication of how many or the extent of their injuries. The Oregon District is a historic neighborhood that Carper described as "a safe part of downtown", home to entertainment options, including bars, restaurants and theaters.

However, the FBI is investigating claims the alleged gunman posted a manifesto citing the mosque attacks not long before the attacks.

The shooting comes less than 24 hours after a gunman, named as Patrick Crusius, opened fire at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas, leaving 20 people dead and 26 injured.

Dayton Police previously said via Twitter that were "investigating an active shooter incident" in the city's OR district and asked residents to avoid the area.
