New England Patriots Finalizing Contract Extension With Tom Brady

Look back at Tom Brady's first-ever NFL action during the 2000 preseason

The longtime New England Patriots quarterback was drafted 199th overall in the 2000 National Football League draft and made his regular season debut the next year after Drew Bledsoe's now-infamous injury.

According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Brady will become the NFL's sixth highest-paid quarterback this season.

The pact is worth $23 million this coming season, while the salary moving forward will be adjusted each year he plays, the outlet said. Before the new contract was agreed to, Brady was scheduled to make $15 million and carry a $27 million cap hit in 2019. Brady already has $212m in career earnings. But even after so much speculation in recent years that tensions among Brady, Belichick and owner Robert Kraft would lead to an imminent breakup, the group remains intact for now as the Patriots chase yet more on-field glory. "I appreciate this team and the opportunity it gave me in 2000". "What do you guys think? Come on. No, like I said, we've got a great relationship so we'll see how it goes". His new deal will take him through the 2021 season. The quarterback just turned 42 over the weekend.

Last year, the Pats won another Super Bowl and Brady threw 29 touchdowns against only 11 interceptions in the process.

"We've had just incredible success".
